Practical moving advice

How much does a house removal cost in Surrey?

There is no reliable single price for a house move based only on the number of bedrooms. The cost depends on what you are moving, the work needed at both properties and the time and resources required to complete it safely.

What affects a house removal estimate?

A proper estimate allows for the complete job rather than multiplying a simple hourly rate. These are the main factors we assess.

1. The volume being moved

Furniture, boxes, garage contents, garden items and belongings in lofts or sheds all take space. The total volume helps determine the vehicle capacity, number of journeys and size of team required.

2. Access at both addresses

Parking distance, stairs, lifts, narrow hallways, restricted doorways and long carries can change how long loading and unloading takes. Access can matter as much as the size of the property.

3. Travelling distance and journey time

Mileage matters, but so do traffic, route restrictions and the time needed to return vehicles and staff. A move within Surrey is not automatically a short job simply because the addresses look close on a map.

4. Dismantling and reassembly

Beds, wardrobes, tables and other large furniture may need to be taken apart to move safely. The estimate should allow for this work and establish what is to be reassembled at the new property.

5. Packing requirements

You can pack your own belongings, ask us to pack selected fragile items or arrange a fuller packing service. Materials, preparation time and the level of help required all affect the cost.

6. Storage and split dates

If the properties are not ready on the same day, your move may involve collection, storage and a later delivery. Storage volume, handling and the length of stay need to be included.

7. Waiting for keys

Completion-day delays are common. If a team and vehicle must wait before unloading, the additional time can affect the final cost. Tell your remover about the moving chain and any known timing risks.

Why bedroom count is only a starting point

Two three-bedroom homes can involve very different moves. One may be lightly furnished with a driveway beside the front door. Another may have a full garage, garden furniture, wardrobes requiring dismantling and parking some distance away.

That is why a room-by-room inventory, together with photographs or short videos where useful, usually provides a sounder basis for an estimate than bedroom count alone.

How to get a more accurate estimate

  • List furniture and likely box quantities room by room.
  • Include garages, sheds, lofts, gardens and storage cupboards.
  • Give both postcodes and the likely moving date.
  • Describe parking, stairs, lifts and long walking distances.
  • Identify furniture that may need dismantling.
  • Say whether you need packing materials, packing help or storage.
  • Point out unusually heavy, fragile or valuable items.

Our online estimate form lets you build an inventory room by room and add optional supporting videos. A member of our team reviews the information before providing a price; it is not produced automatically.

Can you reduce the cost of moving?

Reducing the volume before the move is usually the clearest saving: sell, donate or dispose of items you do not want to take. Good parking arrangements, completing your packing on time and dismantling agreed items in advance can also reduce avoidable delays.

Do not reduce the inventory simply to obtain a lower estimate. Missing furniture or boxes may mean the planned vehicle, staffing or schedule is no longer suitable on moving day.

What should a removal estimate make clear?

Check what the price includes: the planned team and vehicles, packing or materials, dismantling, storage, waiting time, insurance arrangements and VAT. Ask about anything that is unclear before accepting.
